Cellular Devices
When we think of trying to get in contact with someone, you think of texting or calling that person. Technology has increased greatly within the last 70 years. We had the telegraph, phonograph, telephone, and mobile telephone. I believe that a mobile telephone is necessary for today’s day and age because we are so fast paced. We need things done quickly and having a mobile telephone helps us. If we need something from someone just give them a call, if you need to send someone an email on the go, whip out your phone and you can. Telephones bring so much access to any and everything we need. Especially the phones today called Smart phones. These have internet access, phone, camera, and anything else you could imagine. Technology has taken a huge leap since the 1950’s. I believe that people who grew up during the 1950’s and 60’s can appreciate how far society has come with our technology.
Magazines and Photoshop seem to go Hand and Hand
There are thousands of different kinds of magazines. From sports cars to baby magazines. The choice is yours of which one you would like to read. The problem is retouching and photoshopping on the covers and pictures of magazines. Magazines like vogue which photoshopped Grammy award winning singer Adele to look skinny are ridiculous. When you show a magazine cover it should show the person and how they truely are, flaws and all. But when you photoshop and retouch areas such as the waist or chest on women it gives readers and onlookers a false sense of reality. Some people They look up to stars and when they see them on the magazine cover they aspire to be like them in every aspect. If they see models that have been photoshopped to look like a weight no one can achieve, it is giving people the wrong idea. Recently a Girl by the name of Julia Bluhm started a petition which has now reached over 24 thousand signatures, to have seventeen magazine do one photoshoot a month in their magazine and it be all natural. No photshop, no retouching, just a regular photo. This story has became viral because it is important how we see oursleves and if society keeps selling these ideas to us that we need to be a certain way then our future generation will be very low self esteemed individuals!
Newspapers today
In class we have learned about newspapers. Newspapers help get different issues broadcast within a certain town or country. This use to be the primary source of media before the Television. From a newspaper you could get information about any scandals that were going on within governament or just news about an arsonists that is on the spree. Newspapers are here to help us. We get most of our news from televison but the hard work comes from reporting the issues to newspaper eidtors. On television we can just flip on a camera and look for events and they are right there! But in newspapers you actually have to gather up information about things and make sure you have your sources right because once a newspaper is printed and shipped out, then you have no way of retrieving it back because it is already in the general public. Newspapers have helped to give us knowledge about the world we live in and to keep an eye on what is going on around us. Newspapers have the accuracy and technique to write a great news article withouht making anyone mad or upset. Newspapers will forever be around because they are still the primary resource of news!
Social Networking Addiction
Addiction to social media networks seems to be the talk of the web. My friends telling me they did not study for a test because they were on Facebook. I do believe this is something serious. The internet was a revolutionary media outlet, where we can get music, videos or even books from. Society has gotten use to seeing things happen so rapidly on facebook or my space that we forget about priorities. Face book started out mainly for communication purposes but has now become one of the most used sites in the world. Whether you are uploading pictures, seeing what people are up to or even playing games(media convergence), social media sites can take away your focus from every day things that happen. I believe people should stop placing so much emphasis on having a face book because then we could actually get our work done and then use face book or any other social networking sites when it is time to relax. Social networking definitely has its pros and cons but it sadly comes down to if you need your face book more or to pass classes!
Youtube
Youtube as we all know is one of the biggest video sharing sites in the world. There are millions of uploads every single day. You could be a singer posting original songs and videos, a ranter(a person who gives their “very strong” opinion on subjects), or just a normal person trying to show people your life. Whatever you do, youtube could be for you. There are many people on youtube like KevJumba, Raywilliamjohnson or Timothydeleghetto whose job is youtube. They have a fan base who watch their new videos constantly and so youtube sees they get millions of viewers….so what does youtube do? They give you an opporotunity to monetize your videos. They place ads for different things before your videos start and you make money from every viewer watching. Kevjumba was estimated to make about 87 to 262 thousand dollars per year and this is all from just youtube. He makes videos with his friends and group mates from YTF and they have a fan base who loves them. I believe youtube could become the new job market just because there are soo many people with individual talents that people would love to see. I am an inspiring director/editor for film and youtube could be the thing that gains me my fan base and gets me my start!
Google: Project Glass
Augmented reality glasses!!!!!!! Now this just sounds cool to me. Google is working on a pair of frames that hold a heads up display that interacts with your voice. It will be owered by the android operating system and works like siri for the iphone but with much much more pzzaaazz. If you are recieving a phone call, it will show a little icon and the name of the person calling and you can simply say “answer or ignore” without touching your phone. You can ask it to show you direction to a certain place and it will bring up a map in front of your face that will guide you every step of the way. This is what technology geeks(like myself) have been waiting for. This gives us an opportunity to incopporate real life and technology right in front of our eyes. Google is simply amazing! They are creating some of the things I as akid , wished to have seen in the future. This could possibly take society to a whole different level, possibly helping stop texting a driving, and giving people the freedom to have things right in front of their eyes!
J.D. Tech…..I think not!
Senator JD Alxeander was battling USF earlier this year. He wanted to turn USF Polytechnic into an independent university under his name, calling it J.D. Tech. He proposed a bill that would cut the states funding to USF by 60% to make this happen. All because he wanted his name on a university. If you think about how many kids go to USF, CUTTING the funding to that school would be disastorous. They have high caliber football and basketball teams that travel places to play and student activities to get the students more into school and even the bills they have to pay to house students. USF students were not going to have this, taking a stand a marching and rallying up to show their fight against this proposition. I heard this through a friend and myself chatting about school and he goes to USF. He thought it was a crazy idea and that if Senator Alexander wanted to change USF Polytechnic into an indenpendent university then he should raise money himself or take out loans from “sallie mae” like majority of the people going to school.
Trayvon Martin Case
There are sooo many cases where justice is never served. Be it the fault of the higher authorities or just not enough evidence. Trayvon Martin’s case is a crime that is popular right now. A 17 year old african american boy named Trayvon martin was shot and killed by a hispanic male named george zimmerman. The story was that Trayvon had walked to the store and came back walking through the neighborhood where he was visiting his dad and he looked suspicious with his hoody on. He had nothing but skittles and ice tea on him….no gun, no drugs…Nothing. George zimmerman called the police and the police told him to stay away from trayvon martin and zimmerman approached trayvon anyway, atleast that is how the story was first told. When zimmerman approached trayvon, he shot and killed him. Now there are otherr sides of the story where they said trayvon was the aggressor because zimmerman supposedly had scrapes and bruises and cuts on the back of his head. What irritates me is that there was no arrest made on site. They know that zimmerman whether in self defense or spite killed a young man, and he was not even taken in. There were calls coming into the police saying that zimmerman was in fact the agressor and was wrestling with trayvon on the ground. So if a person calls in and tells you they were a witness, do you just ignore it??? I dont think so. Yes he is going to trial now, but there was such a time span between when it first happened to when he actually got detained by the state. I believe that everyone is innocent until proven guilty but when you have so many different sources saying things, you shouldnt just let the case rest, you should be questioning and figuring out things as soon as possible.
